The August alliance meeting for the Northern MN + WI Braver Angels Alliance will give individuals the opportunity to share a “This I Believe” statement of personal belief about why a political topic of your choice is of importance to them. During the meeting people will be invited to reflect and write a 3 minute story onsite that ties to the shaping of their political philosophy, and helps yourself and others to understand the reasoning and depth of your connection to that topic.

It is acknowledged that some stories shared may be deeply personal. Attendees will be instructed not to share anything from someone else’s story without their permission. This is a space for honest and deep connection, where stories, beliefs, and perspectives will be heard and valued.

Essay Guidelines: (You will have 15 minutes during the meeting to formulate a response, but you are welcome to work on your “This I Believe” statement ahead of time if you prefer.)

Be Brief: Limit yourself to 500 to 600 words
Be Positive: State what you do believe. Avoid stating what you don’t believe.
Read Your Essay Aloud to Yourself: If you have time.
A listener should feel like you would respect them if they disagreed with your belief
