The boundaries of Minnesota are being pushed for this edition of MN Reads. A quick trip across the bridge into Wisconsin will lead booklovers to Foxes and Fireflies, Superior's only independent bookstore.
"Foxes and Fireflies opened in August of 2024. It was the first independent bookstore in Superior since 2007," says owner Maria Lockwood who wasn't planning on starting a bookstore. However, after applying for a business class out of curiosity, Lockwood found herself with a foothold. "I just knew that Superior needed a bookstore."
In addition to selling books, Foxes and Fireflies hosts regular author events, weekly book bedazzling gatherings, and silent reading groups. "We just want people to come in, relax, have some fun, and maybe talk books together," says Lockwood.
