The University of Minnesota Duluth Pre Med Club had a successful blood drive this past fall and they hope to build on that momentum for their upcoming drive on Wednesday, February 21st.
One unique feature about this drive is the "Power Red" option. "It takes out those red blood cells, but then it brings back in the plasma and the white blood cells and the other cells that are in your blood, so you keep a little bit more of that energy," says Josh Curry, Pre Med Club member. "Giving a Power Red is so helpful for many patients, especially those who have been in major vehicle wrecks and they need substantial amounts of red blood cells."
The drive takes place in the Kirby Rafters from 10am-4pm. For more information, or to sign up to donate, visit the Red Cross website and type in UMD's zip code (55812).
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
