This week's World Music Artist Spotlight is Alex Cuba.

Alex Cuba is a Grammy, Latin Grammy, and Juno Award winning singer-songwriter/producer and musician. His music reflects Latin and African influences, but with a mix of funk, jazz and pop.

Born Alexis Puentes in Artemisa, Cuba, Alex was immersed in music at age six, joining his father Valentin Puentes' group of 24 guitarists. He went on to study electric and upright bass, touring and recording nationally and internationally.

He immigrated to Canada in 1999 after marrying a Canadian in Cuba. He and his twin brother Adonis settled in Victoria, British Columbia and performed as a duo called the Puentes Brothers.

Alex Cuba went solo in 2004 and released Humo De Tabaco, which featured Ron Sexsmith and Corrine Bailey Rae.

Since his critically acclaimed solo debut, Alex Cuba has released nine studio albums, and has won 4 Latin Grammy Awards and in 2022 after four consecutive nominations, finally received the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop album for Mendó.
