This week's World Music Artist Spotlight is Pachy García, aka Pachyman.

Though based in LA, Pachy García's music is rooted in the sunshiny world of the Caribbean, with the basis of his sound being derived from his native home in Puerto Rico. His music draws heavily on Jamaican rhythms, dub, and roots reggae.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Pachy remembers always having an interest in all things music. He attended the The University of Puerto Rico in the capital of San Juan, where he studied piano.

During this time, he immersed himself in the music and arts scene on the island, and began working with musicians who cross pollinated their musical influences to include Reggae, Dub, Funk ,and Puerto Rican soundscapes. Wanting to expand beyond the island's music scene, he decided to travel to Los Angeles to pursue his music career further.

At the beginning of the pandemic, García started posting home performance videos of his one-man band operation and got so many responses from people saying the clips cheered them up that he started seeing the goal of the project to radiate good energy and give his audience something to disconnect from the negativity of the world.

In 2021, he released The Return of Pachyman on ATO records to critical acclaim. Tours with Black Pumas, Khruangbin, and My Morning Jacket soon followed.

His upcoming album, Switched-On,  is due September 29th.
