Brian Yazzie didn't find himself in any of the texts in culinary school.
The Diné chef and food justice activistfrom the Navajo Nation in Arizona says he found no representation of indigenous foods in the classroom.
But when he did a little digging, he discovered that half of the ingredients in recipes all over the world - the world, mind you - are indigenous ingredients from the Americas.
Brian Yazzie talks "cooking in two worlds," cultural appropriation vs. knowing the land you're on and respecting the original inhabitants, and he shares the menu for his upcoming virtual cooking demonstration.
AICHO’s Virtual Cooking Demo with Indigenous Chef Brian Yazzie on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM is free and open to the public, but you must register to attend.
