A lot like Rodney Dangerfield, the arts don't get a lot of respect when it comes to economic development and dollars and sense.
But the first report of its kind, "Creative Minnesota: The Health and Impact of the Nonprofit Arts and Culture Sector," takes a look at jobs created, local v. non-local attendees and employment of artists.
- over $36 million dollars in annual impact (2012 data)
- 1,000 jobs
- 835,000 people attended non-profit arts events (not counting galleries, concerts, festivals and other for-profit events)
So the number-crunchers might be taking the arts a little more seriously from now on.
