8/6 MN Reads: "More Than Just Ore: The Era That Really Made Ely" by David Kess

We talk with David Kess, author of More Than Just Ore: The Era That Really Made Ely, published in 2014 by the Ely-Winton Historical Society.  Not a dry collection of historical mining data, this book is a collection of photographs and anecdotes that give a deeper connection to the lives lived in Ely since it was founded in the 1880s.

More Than Just Ore: The Era That Really Made Ely is a 2014 nominee in the non-fiction category of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards (NEMBA), established in 1988 to recognize books that substantially represent northeastern Minnesota in the areas of history, culture, heritage, or lifestyle.

Minnesota Reads is produced at KUMD with funding provided in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
