Creator and Host of "For the Birds"

Laura Erickson is a renowned ornithologist, writer, and educator based in Duluth, Minnesota. She is the creator of "For the Birds," the longest-running radio program about birds in the United States, airing since 1986. Through her work, she has inspired countless bird enthusiasts with her deep knowledge and passion for avian life.

A former science editor at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Erickson has authored thirteen books on birds, including 100 Plants to Feed the Birds and Sharing the Wonder of Birds with Kids. Her contributions to bird conservation and education have earned her numerous accolades, including the Roger Tory Peterson Award from the American Birding Association and the Thomas Sadler Roberts Memorial Award from the Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union.

Beyond writing and broadcasting, Erickson has worked as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, focusing on songbirds and Common Nighthawks. She continues to share her expertise through her blog, public speaking engagements, and photography, making birding accessible to audiences of all levels.
