David Gans

David Gans is a musician, songwriter, journalist, and radio host best known for his work in Grateful Dead media and storytelling. He has hosted the nationally syndicated Grateful Dead Hour since 1987, bringing live recordings, interviews, and deep dives into the band's legacy to audiences across the U.S.

Beyond radio, Gans is an accomplished guitarist and songwriter, known for his loop-based live performances and literate songwriting. He co-authored Playing in the Band: An Oral and Visual Portrait of the Grateful Dead, a book that introduced many fans to the band's deeper history.

Gans also co-hosts Tales from the Golden Road on Sirius XM’s Grateful Dead Channel, a call-in show where fans discuss the band's music, culture, and ongoing influence. His decades-long dedication to Grateful Dead scholarship and performance has made him a key figure in preserving and celebrating the band's legacy.
