KUMD Album Reviews: Shout Out Out Out Out

As far as I know, Edmonton, Alberta has only produced one notable band: Shout Out Out Out Out. By Basement DJ: Andrew Leider

Aside from having an overstretched name, this Canadian dance-punk, electro group has proven in their third studio album, Spanish Moss And Total Loss, that electronic dance music can be more than just funky beats and catchy lyrics. In addition to these crucial pieces, it can be deeper and stronger when it feels organic and fresh. Something about Shout's sound is complex yet smooth, and therefore balanced. The most recognized song is "Now That I've Given Up Hope, I Feel Much Better," and is a great example of what Shout Out Out Out Out can bring to the table. Beginning with a cringing, echo of piano chords that eventually gets accompanied by an enthusiastic entourage of claps, symbols, and bass, that finally is carried by the ominous synthesizer melody. Describing each aspect may seem inane, but as stated before, every other track contains these elements that bring each song together to jump out and prove something. Expect even more from Nik Kozub and Jason Troock of Shout Out Out Out Out in the coming years.
