KUMD Album Reviews: Of Monsters and Men

Iceland's very own indie rock band, Of Monsters and Men, have released their first LP, My Head Is An Animal, that provides an extrodinary, upbeat sound and depth that keeps the listener interested.By Basement DJ: Andrew Leider

They are, in a sense, the quintessence of today's indie music, which rivals Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, who many have listened and assumed to be the same, but listening closely allows one to catch their unique differences. One comparison is how both bands have a strong male and female lead, but Of Monsters and Men has Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsd? ttir taking a larger lead with her edgey, yet pronouncing voice supported by the vocals of Ragnar ??rhallson. These two have a natural chemistry in the way they play and sing music together. In addition, both bands excessively use claps, harmonies, and other simple rhythms assorted together, which helps produce their
organic sound. Independently however, Of Monsters And Men delivers a fresh and fashionable style of music with fun and entertaining beats. Likewise, they provide deep and mindful words that have already enticed many listeners and will continue to as the band develops with the release of each new album.
