Sara Radle has certainly increased her popularity in the independent music scene with her fifth solo album, Same Sun Shines, written and recorded by herself in Good Kitty Studios in Los Angeles. For years, Radle has played in a number of bands such as Lucy Loves Schroeder and, most notably, The Rentals. She has been recognized for her soft and sweet voice, and use of steady, minimal rhythms.By Basement DJ: Andrew Leider
On Same Sun Shines, she adapts simple sounds of maracas, xylophones, and handclaps into her alternative, acoustic rock style. Her lyrics touch on desperation, resentment, and sometimes contentment like in the first song "Last" she states, "There will always be the same sun over everyone/ We inhale the same air/ We're pulled down by the same gravity", introducing the listener to her full brilliance included on the album. Lyrically, other songs like "Little One" and "The Game" are harsh and resentful, and songs like "Still Here" and "Can't Go On" are essentially based on suicidal contemplations. There is also a 1975 country cover of the song "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" by Ed & Patsy Bruce for those who enjoy modern renditions of classic songs. The album as a whole can satisfy anyone who appreciates harmonious and melodious indie music.
