KUMD Album Reviews: Twin Sister

Long Island, New York-based quintet Twin Sister tries their hand at a variety of genres on their eclectic debut LP In Heaven. Most listeners will probably hear "Bad Street" first, but most of the album is more ethereal and spacey than their lead single may suggest.By Basement DJ: The Doctor

The airy synth and mellow opening chimes of "Daniel" immediately set the tone for the album. While there are occasional divergences from the quasi-dream pop foundation (the guitar tone and playful instrumental voicing of both "Spain" and "Gene Ciampi" could serve as the soundtrack for a bizarre spaghetti western), they album remains relatively cohesive and the dabbling in other genres is subtle for the most part. The album features some great moments such as the shimmering guitar chords of "Saturday Sunday", the motorik grooves reminiscent of Stereolab heard throughout and of course "Bad Street" - your new full-body-mirror jam. In Heaven isn't necessarily groundbreaking, but Twin Sister sounds as promising on their debut LP as they did on their first two EPs.
