Having relocated to Los Angeles to record for the first time as a band in about three years, TV on the Radio's latest album, Nine Types of Light, is the band's brightest and, dare I say, most "feel-good" album yet. Taking a cue from their impressive 2008 release, Dear Science, TVotR's latest songs are polished and have a clear structure. The ambient experimentation with wanton atmospherics found on previous releases are in short supply here, possibly reflecting the change of scenery.By Basement DJ: The Doctor
The punchy brass section lends welcome color to the muscular bass lines and soulful, borderline funk hooks. The lyrics maintain a sinister sense of humor ("Forgotten"), and the psychedelic moments are not completely lost ("Killer Crane") - this is still the TV on the Radio you know and love, not a watered-down version of Return to Cookie Mountain. Despite the recent passing of bassist Gerard Smith, TV on the Radio will continue their world tour through the end of summer.
