MN Reads: "The Great Escape" Deborah Marcero

Cover of "The Great Escape" by Deborah Marcero; illustration of a girl falling through a cosmic space underneath a snow-covered land
Deborah Marcero

Evie loves casting magical spells and controlling her surroundings. However, her siblings are one thing she can't control. One day, she decides to run from her troublesome siblings and winds up transported to a cosmic realm for a mystical adventure.

In The Great Escape, author and illustrator Deborah Marcero brings whimsy to both the story and the images as Evie and her siblings travel through a skyscape injected with aquatic elements. Adding to the deviation from norm, as the adventure builds, readers will be prompted to turn the book sideways and upside down in order to read the text and see the newly discovered world as Evie sees it.

The Great Escape is available online as well as locally at independent bookstores. Marcero will be at Zenith Bookstore this Saturday, February 28th at 11:30am for a story time and some illustration demonstrations and activities, and at The Bookstore at Fitger's on Saturday, March 7th from 11am-1pm for a signing event.

Minnesota Reads is produced at The North 103.3 with funding provided in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
