Dr. Gwen Westerman, Minnesota Poet Laureate

"We're still writing, singing, creating — and we have been, for a long time."

Dr. Gwen Westerman is such a new Poet Laureate that she's not even sure how long her appointment is.
(Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan made the announcement September 9, and "the person appointed as Poet Laureate continues to serve in this position until the Governor appoints a new Poet Laureate.")
But Westerman has already thought a lot about what kinds of creative activity she'd like to encourage in Minnesotans, including them to write about the landscape where they find themselves, and writing in - and with - the language you know, even if you're only fluent in a few words.
