This week the local art scene focuses on a quarter mile stretch along West 5th Street in Duluth.

On Thursday at 5:30pm, the Duluth Art Institute is hosting “Art Night Out”. The reception for the three exhibits currently on display will include appetizers and beverages. The evening begins in the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. From there, patrons can go upstairs to chat with the artists who have work on display.

The newest exhibition at DAI is from Laura Manney whose digital drawings of landscapes can be found in the corridor gallery. “She really does a fabulous job with quilting together these color swatches and creating landscapes from that,” says Annie Dugan.

On the other side of the I35 overpass, you'll find the Great Lakes Aquarium. This Sunday at 2pm in the aquarium's Merrill Lynch Gallery folks can take in the annual exhibition of Beargrease photographers. “It’s a big part of the Beargrease sled dog race and our region's cultural history,” says Dugan of the exhibit. “You’d think that after so many years there wouldn’t be new stories to tell through visual language, but there is."

You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
