Christine Dean for the North 1033

This Twin Cities musician grew up in London, but moved to Minneapolis at a young age after meeting her now husband, an American from Iowa (their love story was featured in a CNN travel story), and has been there ever since. She performed in bands including the Camdens before taking a break from music to raise a family. In 2010, Vernon started playing the ukulele, which sparked a new direction as a solo artist. She has since released multiple solo albums and performed regularly, including at ukulele festivals and as part of an ABBA cover band. She joined us in the studio on December 8, 2023 in advance of a holiday show she was performing the following night at Sacred Heart Music Center in Duluth along with the Two Harbors Ukulele Group. The North's Christine Dean talked with Vernon about the new band she's put together, and Vernon performed some songs, including an original Christmas song and a song written about her mom, who died when Vernon was 12, after she found a video of her mom being interviewed on a BBC program and got to hear her voice again for the first time in decades.

Christine is The North 103.3's Music Director, a host of Music Through the Day, and the producer of Live from Studio A. One of her favorite things about her job is the opportunity to share music from the Twin Ports’ many talented local artists. In her spare time she takes full of advantage of Duluth’s outdoors opportunities.
