Like the previous three months, August is likely to end below average for precipitation. "May, June, July and August got a total of 7 and 3/4 inches," says Larry Weber. "That's about one half of what we usually get for those months."
Despite the dry conditions, the world is active, green and growing. Wildflowers are hitting their peak, and the fruit-bearing plants are looking to have good production. Bald Eagles and other raptors are being spotted at Hawk Ridge, morning dew is making for some beautiful spider web viewing, and winged-ants are starting to take flight.
And, although he would have liked it, Larry did not come across the mountain lion that's been roaming about.
