In the final stretch, June got just over four inches of rain. "It was a good soaker almost everywhere around," says Larry Weber. The average precipitation for June is 4.4 inches, so all in all, June balanced out. Temperatures for the month also were on average.
The typically-rainy month of June is giving way to July, which is often regarded as a month of thunderstorms. It's also a time when the roadside plants are burst forth and changing every day. The big three to keep an eye open for are fireweed, milkweed, and evening primrose.
Though most in the area will be celebrating Independence Day on the 4th, Weber encourages recognition of the event happening on the 6th. Aphelion marks the time of the year when the Earth is furthest from the sun. "Something to take notice of in the world of phenology," says Weber.
