A flourishing harvest can sometimes feel overwhelming. How do I use it all? Canning? Composting? Freezing? Tom Kasper takes a moment and reminds us not to forget about a more immediately impactful option; sharing.

Many gardeners will plant more vegetables than they could possibly eat. The abundance that follows can be directed to neighbors and community organizations. "There is a great need in our community to share that abundance," says Kasper. "It doesn't need to be a truckload."

CHUM, Second Harvest, Damiano Center, and Two Harbors Food Shelf are just a few of the locations that will accept donations from your garden.

"Take it even a step further," says Kasper. "If you have a whole bunch of flowers... take them to a nursing home and say 'I'd just like to share these with somebody.' Those individuals and organizations are thrilled to receive something like that."
