After nearly five years with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Executive Director Brandon VanWaeyenberghe is trading the lake for the mountains, and heading to Boise, Idaho.

During his time in the Twin Ports, VanWaeyenberghe saw the DSSO through the pandemic. "This organization, as well as this city, has been resilient," says VanWaeyenberghe who notes that coming out of the hard Covid years saw growth in underrepresented voices on stage and an increase in ticket sales.

On the list of VanWaeyenberghe's highlights during his tenure is Jurassic Park. The DSSO performed the John Williams score while screening the film last year. Although he'll have left his post, he's still a champion of future DSSO events. "We will be doing Star Wars: Episode IV coming up in a year."

The next concert for the DSSO is on Saturday, May 4th. For tickets and more information, visit the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra website.

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
