Sacred Heart Music Center is hosting An Early Music Concert at 3pm on April 30th lead by Shelley Gruskin who has been teaching at the College of St. Scholastica since 1978 and has been credited with revolutionizing early music interest in the United States.
Along with the performance of Lover’s Made Men (a piece that debuted in 1640 at the court of James the First), there will also be a demonstration of early instruments including the gemshorn (seen above.) “I’m going to demonstrate five early instruments,” says Gruskin. Those instruments will then be compared to the sounds created by the in-house organ at Sacred Heart. "Certain organ pipes are modeled after those particular sounds."
The concert will feature singers from the Lyric Opera of the North and instrumentalists from the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. The concert is free with a $20 suggested donation.
