Students Lily and Maddie have been involved in robotics for years. "I got involved in third grade," says Maddie. For Lily, it started even earlier. "My kindergarten teacher... invited everyone to [a robotics] open house."

Being a member of a robotics team involves designing and building, as well as executing a task set forth at the beginning of the season. This year's challenge was to build a robot that could stack cones. "We've never had to build a robot that had to extend this high before," says Lily. The style chosen by the group was unique among other teams.

Possibly overlooked in robotics is the value beyond the competition. "It is a competition, but they also want to see us being gracious professionals and... forging relationships with teams," says Maddie. "Robotics is really setting up a lot of kids for a great future."
