The month of May has come two months early. Already, March has been an unusual month with record setting temps, migrating birds, and animals coming out into the sun.
March 11th and 12th saw record highs reaching 63 and 64 degrees respectively. The average temperature so far this month is 36.5 degrees - this compared to the normal average of 25. With this rise in temperatures and the limited snowpack, vernal ponds are almost non-existent. Without vernal ponds, amphibians will have to travel farther to breed.
Other animals that are traveling far are migrating bald eagles, red tail and rough legged hawks, turkeys, Canada geese and more. With the temperatures rising, more animals will be making their way outside very soon.
