Astro Bob's Backyard Astronomy: Upcoming Eclipse

Bob King

The clouds have been out in force lately. The recent full moon went largely unseen in the Northland, so many have their fingers crossed for clear skies for the upcoming solar eclipse.

Our region will see the moon cover 41% of the sun on Saturday morning, October 14th. The "annular" eclipse will cover less than a typical eclipse due to the moon's elliptical path around the earth. The moon will be further from the Earth and, therefore, appear slightly smaller and cover less of the sun.

Bob King will be spending some time at the Duluth Public Library on that day. The library is holding an Eclipse Extravaganza until 2pm on the day of the eclipse. They'll have activities for youths and free eclipse viewing glasses for those in attendance.

You can hear Astro Bob's Backyard Astronomy every other Tuesday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
