After the long, dry summer, it's hard to believe that 2023 is now above average for precipitation. A historically rainy September has catapulted the Northland into a surplus and has many eying the record books.

With the rain came something else. "I have been extremely impressed and enjoying the mushrooms," says Larry Weber. "They are just abundant right now." The moisture and temperature have aligned to litter the land with fungi that have popped up quite suddenly.

The weekend might start out rainy, but there should be a chance to get outside to witness the migration and the changing leaves as September turns to October.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
