After several months of below average precipitation, September has come on very strong on the rain front. At its halfway point, this month has already seen enough rain to ensure that it will be above-average for rainfall.

Other news from the sky is raptors. Peak viewing at Hawk Ridge is upon us. Counts for specific raptors have been in the thousands on some days.

And don't forget to turn your focus to the ground for signs of migrations as well. Snakes are on the move and looking for a place to hunker down for the upcoming winter.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
