Over the past week, precipitation has gone from above normal to below. "We could use a really good rain," says Larry Weber, responding to a weekend forecast that includes a high likelihood of showers and thunderstorms.
The bald eagle has been the most common sighting as Hawk Ridge gets into the thick of their raptor count. Thus far, over 100 raptors have been spotted overhead.
Also active in the air; bees and wasps. "To me, summer isn't summer if I don't have a hornet's nest in the yard," says Weber. With most of the summer tasks done for the season, many worker bees are looking out for themselves. Many will quickly gravitate to an open soda can or a partially eaten apple.
Acorns from the northern red oak (which only form every other year) are falling. Metal roofs located below certain oak branches could make for a noisy autumn.
"The time is moving on," says Weber. "I recommend to get out and take a look."
