Hanging baskets are an investment - and not just financially. Tom Kasper explains that caring for these plants requires diligence in three different areas.

Deadheading is key to keeping your blooming plants healthy through the summer. Though methods change from one plant to another, the purpose of deadheading is to remove the pod of seeds that will no longer serve the plant's health.
Fertilizing is also a necessity for plants in baskets or planters. The soil will remain stagnant without effort from the gardener.
Watering might seem obvious, but it's important to find the balance between "too much" and "too little". Be aware of location. If plants are shielded from the rain, watering may be the step that requires the most attention.
