Janelle Miller and Stacy Renne are the artists behind Warrior Printress, a letterpress printing company in Duluth. This Thursday, on the campus of University of Wisconsin Superior in the Holden Fine Arts Center, is the opening of their letterpress exhibition. The exhibit focuses on new messages by way of old technology. This exhibit highlights quotes from drag queens. Miller and Renne do a lot of client-based work through the community, but also spend time conveying their artistic voices. “Collaboration is at the heart of everything they do,” says Annie Dugan. To make this exhibit, the artists have worked with, not just each other, but also a filmmaker and a musician.
Saturday at the Tweed Museum, a group of spinners will be turning fiber into thread. Duluth Fiber Guild will be doing a whole series of “enhancement activities” to complement the exhibit that is currently on display. The event takes place from 10am-1pm at the Tweed. "People don't hear Rumpelstiltskin anymore," says Dugan. "They spin everything from regular sheep's wool to cat to rabbit." If it can be spun, it can become thread.
