Backyard Almanac: Leap into Spring

Rob English

Welcome to meteorological spring. Time to enjoy the warm March weather and the appearance of our spring critters.

Larry Weber discusses the weather records we hit this year, including an average of 25 degrees for the winter months and an average snow fall of 1.6 inches in February, which beat the previous record of 2.3 inches.

These warmer temps and seasons are begetting more outdoor activities for our frogs, birds and butterflies. To see the arrival of bald eagles from the south, take a hike up to Enger Tower and enjoy nature running its course.

Other birds of note that are showing their feathers are trumpeter swans, Canadian geese and the saw-whet owl - a species of owl so small that could fit in the palm of your hand.
