This episode of Ojibwe Stories: Gaganoonididaa features Leslie Harper's keynote address from the 2013 Minnesota Indigenous Languages Symposium last September at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake. She reflects on her experiences creating the Niigaane Ojibwemowin Immersion School on the Leech Lake Reservation, now in its eleventh year.

 

3/17 Ojibwe Stories - Gaganoonididaa: Language Immersion Schools

Leslie Harper is the director and co-founder of the Niigaane Ojibwemowin Immersion School on the Leech Lake Reservation, a school for children in K - 6th grades in operation since 2003. Leslie is Ojibwe from the Leech Lake Reservation, and is recognized locally and nationally for her grassroots work in the revitalization of the Ojibwe language in an immersion school setting.

Ojibwe Stories: Gaganoonididaa is produced by KUMD and the Department of American Indian Studies at UMD, with funding provided in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
