6/2 Six neglected horses get a second chance at Seeds of Hope

Last Thursday (5/25) the St. Louis County Sheriff called Seeds of Hope Youth Ranch in Duluth to rescue four horses and two ponies from a property up the shore.  Seeds of Hope co-founder Russ Krook says the horses were covered in mud, had no food or water, and appear to have been neglected for quite some time.

It will take Seeds of Hope at least two months - and a lot of donations - to get the horses the veterinary care they need, their teeth and feet attended to, and to build them back up to a healthy weight.  The farrier's work alone on their overgrown hooves will probably take a year. Then they can begin to assess the horses to see if they can be a part of the Seeds of Hope project, a place where neglected horses and children can spend time together ... and heal each other in the process.

Lisa Johnson started her broadcast career anchoring the television news at her high school and spinning country music at KWWK/KOLM Radio in Rochester, Minnesota. She was a reporter and news anchor at KTHI in Fargo, ND (not to mention the host of a children's program called "Lisa's Lane") and a radio reporter and anchor in Moorhead, Bismarck, Wahpeton and Fergus Falls.Since 1991, she has hosted Northland Morning on KUMD. One of the best parts of her job includes "paying it forward" by mentoring upcoming journalists and broadcasters on the student news team that helps produce Northland Morning. She also loves introducing the different people she meets in her job to one another, helping to forge new "community connections" and partnerships.Lisa has amassed a book collection weighing over two tons, and she enjoys reading, photography, volunteering with Animal Allies Humane Society and fantasizing about farmland. She goes to bed at 8pm, long before her daughter, two cats, or three dogs.
