KUMD Album Reviews: Poli?a

Nobody was expecting the sudden rise in popularity and success of the new, experimental Minneapolis-based band Poli?a, nonetheless the band has gained much attention and acclaim due to their dynamic use of deep and soft bass from Chris Bierden accompanied by the intricate percussion work from its two drummers Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu, followed by the soothing and brisk synthesizer and extremely beautiful, head-turning voice of Channy Leaneagh.By Basement DJ: Andrew Leider

Ryan Olson, Channy's friend, is credited as producer and collaborator who helped spark the entire band after he and Channy experimented with some of his self-made synthesized tracks and voice-correction tools. In addition to their rise, the appetizer of early music releases helped to lure in attracting listeners for the main dish. Give You The Ghost was released Valentine's Day of this year and has been quickly gaining popularity. Justin Vernon from Bon Iver even claimed in a Rolling Stone interview, "They're the best band I've ever heard!" They will be joining Bon Iver throughout their tour in Europe this July. The music style could be described as electronic, or indie-rock, or even psychedelic, but each song brings its own disposition to the table that easily separates itself from one category. One must simply listen to what Poli?a as it is - an experimental project of musical talent and cordial melodies - and enjoy what its rare impression has to offer.
