Periodically since 2014, the Storm Drain Art Project has invited area artists to add their art to sidewalks near storm drains as a means of conveying messages of environmental awareness and appreciation for nature. "I feel like in the sciences... we use so much data and articles... but we tend to not to use art." says Megan Högfeldt, Water Resource Specialist for the City of Superior. "We have so many amazing artists in the Twin Ports to really utilize their skills."
A celebration of this year's work will take place tonight (June 12th) from 5:30-7pm at Empire Coffee at 1204 Tower Avenue in Superior. Photos of the work by this year's artists will be on display at the gallery open house. Artists include Sylvia Houle, Michelle DeFoe, Chelsey Miller, and Dawn, Molly and Mazie Turchi. Pizza and lemonade will be provided to visitors. The duo Similar Dogs will provide music for the event.
More information about the Storm Drain Art Project and the Gallery Open House can be found online at the City of Superior website.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
