The temps have dropped making the conversation about the “warmest January ever” a moot point. But Larry Weber is still keeping his eyes on the record books.
“There is another statistic that I’ve been looking at,” says Weber, “the total snowfall from the beginning of the season until now.” Depending on the next few days, the Northland might see as much as 80 inches of snow for the season before the end of the month. An average snowfall for an entire winter season is about 90 inches.
“I had a fabulous experience yesterday morning,” says Weber. On Wednesday, the new fallen snow highlighted all of the animal activity that had happened over the previous hours. “The coyote crossing” was well trod. Tracks from fox, rabbits, and more were abundant. Most notably, tracks from a mouse were followed by the tracks of a weasel. Both tracks led to the base of a tree. Any altercations that may have occurred likely happened under the snow. “’A drama on the driveway’ is what I call it.”
