The words "We the People" have been ingrained into every 8th grader's mind, but this weekend brings the U.S. Constitution out of the classroom and into the theater.
What the Constitution Means to Me is a 2017 stage play that premiered off-Broadway before gaining the attention of critics, theatergoers, and the Tony's. The latest iteration of the show (with an all-local cast) is currently showing at Zeitgeist Theater in downtown Duluth. The play examines one woman's journey of exploring our country's most important document and its many gray areas.
Mary Fox, the Zeitgeist Producing Artistic Director, says that the play is a must-see for all Americans.
"I just had this really wild experience that I haven't had in a theater in a while of just being really affected, genuinely, authentically feeling things and wanting to talk about the show and wanting to talk about the themes and the topics that the show brings up," said Fox of her experience watching the show, which was originally produced locally through Rubber Chicken Theater. "It just was this no-brainer to bring this show back when we could."
The final three performances of What the Constitution Means to Me, directed by Kendra Carlson, are at 7:30pm on January 23rd, 24th and 25th at Zeitgeist Theater. Tickets can be purchased online at Zeitgeistarts.com.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
