Back Tracks: Three Music Questions with Melissa LaTour

Head shot of a smiling woman with red hair

After six years at the helm of the Homegrown Music Festival, Melissa LaTour is stepping down. “I'm still available for questions and whatnot,” says LaTour who’s been a part of the festival since the first year. "As far as the heavy work, I am retired." Half of her years in the director’s chair meant finding a way through the pandemic. Connecting virtually in 2020 and 2021 helped keep the festival alive and healthy.

When asked about her musical history, LaTour revealed a direct correlation from her first album (which was purchased with babysitting money) to her first concert. And when it comes to a guilty pleasure song, LaTour doesn’t hold back. “There's usually some dancing going through the house.” Yes, around the house... as well as in Milan, New York and Japan.

Back Tracks receives support from Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union.
