Radio Gallery: Empty Bowl

Empty Bowl

The 25th Annual Duluth Empty Bowl happens Tuesday, April 17 at The Historic Depot in downtown Duluth beginning at 10 a.m. This annual fundraiser supports Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank in providing food for the hungry in Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin.  Nearly 46.5 million people in America face hunger. The idea behind Empty Bowl is that it reminds us of all the empty bowls in our country. Buy a handmade bowl by local artists and you’ll get a complimentary bowl of soup along with your delightful new bowl. The preview event, Sea of Bowls is Monday, April 16, 2018 from 5-7 p.m, and Empty Bowl is all day Tuesday, April 17, beginning at 10 a.m.

Local potters and ceramic artists both practiced and novice lend their hands to support the cause, making bowls, glazing and firing the bowls.  We spoke with Liz and Megan of UMD who helped organize students in making bowls for the fundraiser.

There is also an online silent auction both Monday and Tuesday if you cannot attend the event.
