Jug Band Hokum is not your standard documentary film. It is a hootenanny with a twist, celebrating the diversity of folks involved or intrigued by Minnesota's friendly Battle of the Jugbands. These down-home, community gatherings have caught on with the next generation of musicians, with the annual Minneapolis battle going on 40 years and the Duluth Battle of the Jugbands celebrating its 20th Anniversary Sunday, May 29, 12-7 pm at the Amazing Grace Cafe.
St. Paul musician and filmmaker Jack Norton set out to make a jugband music documentary following two hopefuls but the comedy that ensued is Jug Band Hokum, a film selected to be part of this years film festival in Duluth. With cameos by Garrison Keillor, Dom Flemons (of the Carolina Chocolate Drops) and Charlie Parr, the film shows as part of the Duluth Superior Film Festival in Duluth, Thursday, June 2 at 9pm at Teatro Zuccone.
Tune in next week for more about the Annual Duluth Superior Film Festival happening in Duluth (and Cook, MN) June 1-5pm.
