MN Reads talks with Sue Leaf, author of Portage: A Family, a Canoe, and the Search for the Good Life, published in 2015 by the University of Minnesota Press. Reflecting on many years of travel by canoe with friends and family in this collection of essays organized by trip, Sue writes of a larger journey of resiliency and awareness of the natural beauty that has surrounded her.
Sue Leaf is the author of The Bullhead Queen: A Year on Pioneer Lake (Minnesota, 2009); A Love Affair with Birds: The Life of Thomas Sadler Roberts (Minnesota, 2013); and Potato City: Nature, History, and Community in the Age of Sprawl. Trained as a zoologist, she writes on environmental topics, especially those close to her Minnesota home. She and her husband, Tom, have paddled the waters of North America together for forty years.
